How Alcohol Travels To The Brain.
Assume that a person has consumed several beers within one hour, for our purposes. The liver is absorbed into the blood stream and is then transported into the liver. The liver will then metabolize the alcohol and begin the process of oxidization. Once the liver has oxidized as much alcohol as it can within in the hour, the remaining alcohol will enter the blood stream.
From there the blood, including the alcohol within the blood stream, will go to the heart. Interestingly in the heart, the blood will move from the right atrium to the right ventricle and to the lungs. Once the blood moves into the lungs (in the pulmonary artery) it is then oxygenated and goes back to the heart.
From the heart, the blood travels to the brain. Thus, the intake of alcohol affects the entire body--including the brain. This is what the State alleges causes the "loss of normal mental and physical faculties."
