The Administration Of The Walk And Turn Test, Continued
When a police officer is administering the Walk and Turn test, there are some key things that an officer must do. If not, then the accuracy of the test is seriously called into question. First, the officer must administer the test on a "designated straight line" and it the test must be conducted on a "reasonably dry, hard, level, nonslippery surface."
Also, the officers are warned that the test should not be administered to someone that is over the age of 65, if a person has back, leg, or middle ear problems. Obviously, if a person is wearing heals then the person should be given an opportunity to take off their shoes.
Remember, that the reliability of the tests depends not on the suspect that is taking the test, but by the officer who administers the test. It is very important that your DWI lawyer be well-versed in the intricacies of the SFSTs in order to properly defend you against your DWI charges.
