Holiday Anti-DWI Campaign Meant to be Funny and Serious

In North Texas, the Department of Transportation is using a little humor to discourage people from driving while intoxicated (DWI) during the holidays. In its anti-drunk driving campaign ads, it says that if a person's reindeer is under the influence, the person shouldn't hesitate to call a cab.
In fact, in one ad, Santa Claus is shown throwing an intoxicated reindeer out of a party because it supposedly has one too many. Santa is shown using a line of cabs to pull his sleigh instead. While the ads are meant to be funny, they carry a serious message and that is that people should avoid getting behind the wheel if they have been drinking alcohol.
The sad fact is that Texas has the highest DWI fatality rate in the country and in 2010 there were over 3,000 deaths on state roads. Those that choose to consume alcoholic beverages should know that if they are caught DWI, they will face serious ramifications if they are convicted.
