Woman Charged With DWI After Being Involved In Wreck With Richardson Officer
Savanna Cruz, a 25-year-old Plano woman, was arrested for DWI after midnight several days ago after she was involved in a wreck with a Richardson police officer. The Richardson police officer and another police officer were assisting a motorist on the side of U.S. 75. Cruz was driving northbound when she veered off of the freeway and then collided with one of the parked police cars. The squad car then collided with the car in front of it. One officer was inside the car when Cruz collided with the police car.
Initially, Cruz was charged with DWI. It appears, however, that the officer that was in one of the police cars was injured and taken to the Plano hospital. Depending on the severity of the injury, that is if the injury is severe, she could be charged with
Intoxication Assault. The officer must have suffered from
severe bodily injury to be charged with Intoxication Assault. Severe bodily injury is defined as injury that creates a substantial risk of death or that causes serious permanent disfigurement or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily organ or member.
