License Plate Leads Police to DWI Offender Responsible for Hit-And-Run
In Houston, Texas, police were on the lookout for a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident. On Tuesday, officers told news sources that a van license plate found at the scene of the collision led them to a man that was later arrested for DWI. According to the Sheriff's Office, the suspect known as J.T. was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated as well as failing to stop and render aid. The fatal accident occurred on Monday at 11:30 p.m. and led to the death of a 53-year-old bike rider.
News sources report that after the collision occurred, J.T. sped away in his van without stopping to check on the bicyclist. However, while driving off, the van's license plate fell off and was left at the scene. When officers pulled information on the license plate and contacted the vehicle's owner, he told police that his friend J.T. borrowed his van. He then took police to J.T.'s residence. There, police found their suspect asleep on his stairs with the keys to the van nearby.
